St Edward's Housegroup
What is it?
The Housegroup is an informal gathering of people who want to know more about each other and more about God. Some people who attend are regular members of the congregation. Others are only loosely linked to the church. The goals of the group are to explore issues of faith, Christian thinking and religious experience so as learn from one another and to build a sense of fellowship, community and mutual support in our spiritual journey.
Who can participate?
Anyone who is interested can join the Housegroup. All that we ask is that you let us know in advance if you plan to attend so that we know who to expect.
What happens?
The format of the meeting is flexible but normally includes some music, discussion around a theme led by a member of the group and a time of silent prayer. Our discussions might deal with a favourite writer or a particular aspect of faith or experience. Over the past year we have ranged from the writings of Kierkegaard to those of Elizabeth Gilbert and from a Christian response to climate change to contemplative prayer.
Who leads the group?
The group is not formally led but its meetings are supported by the Lay Chaplain, Christina Johnson.
How often does it meet?
Every two weeks in term time, at present on Mondays.
Where does it meet?
Usually at the home of one of the group's members in Rustat Road, south of the city centre and sometimes at the home of the Lay Chaplain in the city centre.
