Forthcoming Odyssey Sermons:

Goth Eucharists: The final Goth service of the term will be on March 27th at 8.45 pm, when Fraser Watts will preach on Insiders and Outsiders. Then there will be a break until Tuesday 24th April.

11.00 am Communion Services: There will be a Parish Communion at 11.00am on Easter Day, which will be a joint service for morning and evening congregations. There will be no evening service that day. There will also be a Prayer Book Communion at 11.00 am on April 29th.

Patronal Festival: The Patronal Festival service will be Mattins at 11.00 am on Sunday April 22nd. Because Easter falls early this year, we have postponed the Patronal Festival until after. The preacher will be Dr Cally Hammond, Dean of Gonville and Caius College. After the service there will be the usual lunch in Trinity Hall, and in due course there will be a list to sign up for that. Those who attend any service at St Edward's are warmly encouraged to come and join us for that lunch. Cost: £4.00.

Electoral Roll: Those wishing to be on the electoral roll are reminded that applications need to be received no later than Sunday March 25th

Churchwardens: The brief vestry meeting for the election of churchwardens will be held after Mattins on Sunday April 15th. Nominations need to be made in advance of the meeting.

Annual Meeting: The Annual Parochial Church Meeting will be held at Trinity Hall at 2.00 pm on Sunday 22nd April, after the Patronal Festival lunch. Ten members of the Chapter will be elected at the meeting, and nominations are invited for those positions. It is hoped that the Master of Trinity Hall will be able to admit the Churchwardens to office during the meeting.

Confirmation: Several members of St Edward's will be confirmed at the Easter Vigil service at Ely Cathedral (7.30 pm on Saturday 7th April). Any one who would like to attend is very welcome to do so. Please remember those to be confirmed in your prayers: Anna Finlayson, Anna McCurdy, Micah McCurdy, Megan Morris & Jeannet Weurman.

From Canon Alan Cole

One of the poignant memories of my time as Vicar Chaplain of St Edward's is of the quiet reflective Communion Services during Holy Week. They were special because the readings of the long Prayer Book Gospels by Dr Kenneth Budden. Kenneth was a saintly man, which was conveyed in the sensitive way he read. One realised that he felt every moment of Jesus journey to the cross. This is something that will always be with me.

It is sad that life for many people seems to be lived in the fast lane. Bombarded by images flashed on to the television screens and now also on mobile phones - by sounds - the continuing blast of music channelled through ipods.

We may not have a great deal of time but it is essential that we strive to spend some of that time during Holy Week reflecting on the Passion Narratives. To read the words with care - to use our imagination to think what it must have been like for Jesus, his disciples and all those involved in his betrayal, arrest, trial and death on the cross. To think about all those in this troubled world who are suffering, from hunger, disease, natural disaster, and victims of political struggles and war.

Trying to feel and identify with such conditions brings us closer to the suffering of Jesus. To feel his pain of rejection and his love of all peoples even those who crucified him. To learn from him how to forgive others and also to accept forgiveness ourselves.

When we travel with Christ during that momentous week which changed the course of human history we can enter fully into the joy, the wonder and great mystery of the Resurrection.

Without the Resurrection and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost we would not be worshipping the living God. It is God's initiative - his way of revealing the depth of Divine love for us all.

Let us make that journey to the cross, and rejoice and celebrate to the full the wonderful fact that Christ is risen - new life for us now to experience and LIVE. He is Risen indeed!
